Today Kiffin still rests in the cemetery at Luxeuil-les-Bains. One hundred years later, a grateful French nation has not forgotten the American volunteer who gave his life for France. His grave is flanked by two French tricolor flags, the flag under which he flew. (On special occasions an American flag is substituted for one of the tricolors.) The standard military cross is supplemented by bronze and marble plaques, honoring Kiffin. A building at the nearby Luxeuil airfield is named in Kiffin’s honor. (Author’s photo)
