By July, 1915, Kiffin’s leg had healed sufficiently that he was released from the hospital. He was given 30 days convalescence leave in Paris before returning to duty with the Legion. Here he is shown with (left to right) his brother Paul, unknown (possibly Marcelle Guérin), Kiffin, Paul’s new fiancée Jeanne, and unknown. Paul was also on convalescence leave, still suffering from the effects of infectuous rheumatism. (Photo courtesy of the State Archives of North Carolina.)
