About

Hello. I’m Steve Tom. All my life I’ve enjoyed writing as a hobby. When I was in Junior High I got caught writing a story when I was supposed to be doing homework. I had to read it to the whole class. That should have taught me a lesson, but it didn’t. Since then I’ve worked as a draftsman, a multiple machine grinder, a car mechanic, an engineer, and I’ve been a college student. Several times. When I finished my day’s work, I liked to write.

I spent over twenty years in the US Air Force, I worked in private industry for a similar number of years, and I spent a few years as a consultant. I worked as a controls engineer, where I worried about PID gains, debounce times, and hysteresis. I worked in management where I endured meetings, compiled budgets, and wrestled with personnel issues. And when I got home at night I wrote.

I’ve written two books (so far) for the general public, and I’m a contributing author to several textbooks on energy management that even I wouldn’t want to read. I’ve published more engineering articles in technical journals than I can remember. I’ve also published general interest and humor articles in automotive, golf, and history magazines. (Ever hear of the League of World War One Aviation Historians? I’m a member, and I’ve written for their journal.)

I’m retired now, and guess what. I still like to write. In addition to writing, I enjoy repairing and driving antique cars, restoring antique phonographs, collecting jazz and dance records from the 1920s, and flailing about on a golf course with wooden shafted golf clubs. As you might have guessed, I also enjoy history. And most of all, I enjoy spending time with my wife and children.
