Flaming Floorboards

All my life I’ve been afflicted with a strange desire (obsession?) to buy old cars and depend on them for daily transportation. By “old” I mean a 1928 Ford, a 1948 MG, a 1957 MG, a 1964 Jaguar, a 1966 Impala, and many more. These were not beautifully restored classic automobiles. They were “junkers” — rolling wrecks that I saved from the salvage yard.

Flaming Floorboards is a light, humorous book about the cars I’ve owned and the characters I’ve met while struggling to keep these cars on the road. Here are a few sample chapters to give you an example of what the book is about. The complete book is available in paperback or eBook format through Amazon.

Review Excerpts for Flaming Floorboards:

An absolutely wonderful book! It’s a mixture of musings, memoirs, and many unforgettable moments of living with a passion for old cars. . . . Steve has a wonderful way of telling stories, making interesting analogies, and making you laugh out loud. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes old cars or someone who just wants to read a very interesting, entertaining, and funny book.

Mr. Tom writes with his unique perspective, a sidewall philosopher who rolls with the punches and occasionally stops to kick a tire (or two). I chuckled, I laughed out loud. I reminisced and remembered my own adventures with the cars I have known and loved.

I totally loved this book–I have a fairly short attention span with books and I kept wishing this would never end. Anyone with an interest in old cars would enjoy reading this. The car stories are interspersed with social history which makes a very readable and well written package.

This is a collection of short stories woven into an autobiographical series of glimpses into his life, family, and friends with and around cars and car lovers. And if you’ve spent any time with cars and car people, you’ll recognize your own experiences here too. Steve’s incredible memory for details, his insightful descriptions, and his dry wit make this book difficult to put down.

Flaming Floorboards is a fantastic book that chronicles the author’s life long infatuation with vintage sport cars – primarily British cars. The book is very humorous, insightful, and a pleasure to read. But most importantly, the author’s tone is one of self deprecation and kindness. I have read many books, and this one is among the BEST! I highly recommend.

Note: Like most books written in the last twenty years, this book is available for free download from pirate sites on the Internet. These sites claim the books are not copyrighted and it’s perfectly legal to download them. They’re lying. Please do not patronize these sites. They are undercutting the entire publishing industry. I deliberately priced this book as low as I could to make it affordable, but if you download it from a pirate site I get absolutely nothing for the thousands of hours I spent writing the book.
