If you’ve read my book Flaming Floorboards you know that I’ve always been infatuated with driving old cars. Not beautifully restored antiques, mind you. I feel compelled to rescue broken down “clunkers” and use them as daily drivers. This perverted obsession has led to innumerable roadside breakdowns, barked knuckles, and grimy fingernails. It’s also inspired a few short stories. Some of these stories are true and some are fiction, but they’re all based on situations I’ve actually experienced.
Erecting The Hood and The Lug Nuts were originally published in Moss Motoring magazine and are reprinted here with their permission.
If you enjoyed these stories you might want to check out my articles in Moss Motoring Wake Up Maggie, A Dear School, Like Father Like Daughter, and The Lucas Uncertainty Principle.
